Something Different

We experienced another first. Last week, my wife and I auditioned for the new movie Fireproof. We tried out for the main roles in the film, a couple struggling in a difficult marriage. The scene they asked us to read was a minor fight by the couple which currently happens early in the film.

Our bad news is your good news: we did not get a call-back. The movie will be much better without us in the lead roles. We are secretly hoping for minor roles but have heard nothing.

The audition was a strange experience. I was not bothered by the camera or the four people who were deciding our fate. It was much more emotional that I thought it would be; I was keyed up for most of the evening. I got to read with someone else who may still being considered for a major role. She and I were asked to read and act through the major fight scene which has yelling and lots of tension. I was surprise how drained I was after yelling and fighting with someone I barely know, fighting about something that isn’t even real.

I wanted the part more after the audition than I did when I went in.

We enjoy laughing with those who tried out with us.

Looking back, we should have gotten a script sooner, learned the lines, and figured out quicker what the casting people and writers were looking for. I think we played ourselves with different lines instead of acting out the parts.

It was cool night.

  1. Really…I had no idea…I’m going for behind the scenes stuff. The audition was entirely too trying for me. I’m actually very glad I won’t be in front of the camera…God knows what He’s doing…and I am soooo glad.
